Selected works of David Marshall
Most of my work explores how people make sense of complex systems – whether those systems are social, technical, cultural, or personal.
Publications
Marshall on Policy
Independent Irish policy analysis and commentary examining energy, housing, health, governance, public administration and economic development. Marshall on Policy combines regular Policy Briefings with longer essays, drawing on many years of experience in representation, public affairs and organisational change.
Radar Signals
Brief observations on emerging developments, weak signals and early indicators that may warrant closer examination, policy consideration or public discussion.
Essays – On society and the shape of life
Long-form essays on society, technology, music, place and contemporary experience, examining how individuals make sense of complex systems and everyday life.
The Marshall Review
Short essays, commentary and reflections on society, culture, technology, music, policy and place. The Marshall Review follows ideas wherever they lead, with an interest in how people navigate complexity and change.
Other Projects.
Guitar and Ukulele
Writing and resources that explore guitar and ukulele beyond technique alone, as instruments of curiosity, craft, and musical understanding.
Walking in Ireland
A continuing exploration of Ireland’s landscapes, routes, places, and heritage, building on earlier work including Best Walks in Ireland (Constable).
Earlier journalism and editorial work
Earlier work includes the books… Representing Nurses at the UKCC, Conducting Ballots at the Workplace, and Tackling Racism, together with guidance, briefing, and editorial material on employment rights, health and safety, equality, professional representation, and organisational change.
